Network Marketing

Why I Chose This Company (Part One)

How do you know which network marketing company is right for you? Well, here’s a bit of my history, so that you can see what helped me to learn to make this kind of decision.

(This is part one of a 3-part series).

When I originally got into network marketing, it was in 2001, and it was with The Pampered Chef, Canada. A friend had invited me to her house for a party, and once I saw the products, I felt like I just had to join to get a discount on them — I loved it all!

These products (kitchen tools) appealed to me, because I hate to cook, and they promised to make my life in the kitchen quicker, more efficient, and easier. Add to that the fact that I could finally “be my own boss”, and have my own business (something I’d always dreamed of doing), and I was sold!

I ended up staying with The Pampered Chef for 4 years, and absolutely loved it … except for two (2) main issues:

First, because it was 2001-2004 that I was involved with this company, all of my business was conducted face-to-face, doing home parties. And, that was fine….while I had my warm market (friends, family, and friends-of-friends). However, because I’ve never been a “pushy”, go-getter type, I didn’t feel comfortable in promoting beyond that level. So I hit a wall, and my business couldn’t grow any bigger (side note: back then, I had terribly low self-esteem, too, so that didn’t help me to get myself “out there”, either… I hadn’t yet learned to develop myself in this area).

My second issue was that, these products are so good that, once people have them, they don’t need to buy any more for many, many years (I’m still using some of the stuff I bought back in 2001… 17 years later!!!). So, with the products not being “consumable” (meaning, they don’t need to be purchased over and over, on a monthly basis), I’d also need to be finding new people to sell to, constantly, or else my business would die.

And that’s why I moved on, despite my love of the company.

I did try getting back into The Pampered Chef in around 2015, given I still love the products, and it’d been about 10 years. Plus, everything is mostly online now (I could just send people to my website). And yet, it just wasn’t the same. So, after a month, I quit again…

. . . . . . . . .

Next week, I’ll be sharing Part Two of this series, to give you more of the story of my journey to why I chose my current company. Stay tuned!
